1. Getting Started

It is really important for students to attend the Telecourse Orientation. On Orientation day, you will meet your instructor and receive your syllabus and other class materials. In addition, you can purchase your textbook and study guide and check out appropriate materials from the library.

From the Library at South Omaha campus, you may check out the video series.

If you are unable to attend the Orientation, the syllabus will be mailed to you during the first week of the class. As soon as you receive the mailing, read it over carefully. Go to the South campus to check out library materials and purchase your books. If you have any questions about policies, assignments, requirements, etc., contact your instructor immediately!

2. Time Management

A weekly schedule of assignments is included in the syllabus and is available on this site. It is important to complete work in a timely fashion. Telecourse learning requires independence and self-directedness. Procrastination is your worst enemy!

Testing is scheduled over several days. However, the material for the next unit continues during the testing period. Keep up with new material as you review for the tests. Take tests as early as possible in the testing period.

If you fall behind, catch up as quickly as possible.  Check your syllabus for specifics on late assignments and missed exams. Be sure to do your Oral Participation and to fill out the forms.  Keep in contact with your instructor with your questions and concerns.

3. Approach to the Material

The Study Guide advises you to how to sequence your work. Following the proper sequence will make the material work best for you.  Begin with the "Preparación" section in the textbook.  After you have completed it, view the video.  Then continue on with the exercises in the textbook.  Do not skip around.  The exercises with a cassette tape drawn beside them are to be done using your audio cassette for that lesson.  When you have finished all the exercises in the textbook, correct the exercises using the answers provided in the back of the book.   Write your score on the Progress Report Form.  This will show you what you need to review.  After completing the textbook, begin the exercises in the Study Guide/Workbook.  Do not skip around.  When you come to an exercise which says (Worksheet) after the instructions, write your answers on the appropriate worksheet provided at the end of your Study Guide/Workbook.  When you have finished all the exercises, correct your exercises using the answers provided in the back of the Study Guide. When correct the worksheet, clearly show corrections, and clearly mark material that you checked and found correct.  Not all the exercises will have answers in the back.  Using your performance as a guide, review the material you had difficulty with.  When you have reviewed, turn the Worksheet over and take the Self-Test (not every lesson has a Self-Test).  After you have finished with the Self-Test, correct it using the answers provided in the back of the Study Guide.  Show your corrections.   The instructor will use the corrected version for your grade, but you will both see areas where you need to review further.  It the material is all correct, show that as well.

4. Preparing for Tests

Before the testing period begins, there will be a review session.  Although attendance is not required, most students find it very helpful.   Review sheets will also be posted on the website. Review sheets are topical and will help you identify content that might require further study.
