Well-prepared Speakers:

A well-prepared speaker is one who has followed the Canons of Rhetoric diligently.  She has invested time in invention, narrowing and researching a vital topic.  He has considered both the topic and the audience as he organized his resources.  He has determined the most appropriate language choices and style for his topic, audience, and persona.  Finally, she has practiced her speech until she can simply talk with the audience, delivering the speech in an extemporaneous way.  Although a well-prepared speaker makes the speaking experience look easy, remember that the speaker works hard before you see the end result.

Adequate preparation ensures not only a professional speech for the audience, but also confidence for the speaker.  Well-prepared speakers may still be nervous, but that nervousness will soon disappear as they remember that they have "walked the walk," and are ready to "talk the talk."
