Even in today's world of electronically mediated communication, the skills of public speaking remain among those most valued by educators and employers alike. Within the Public Speaking course at Metropolitan Community College, we coach the development of two major skills: the skill of communicating clearly and effectively, and the skill of critically evaluating a variety of communication situations. Thus students are encouraged to become both speakers as well as critical consumers of public communication. These pages have been designed to help both students and instructors improve these two skills. The Resource Page includes a variety of links for researching topics, improving speaking skills, and having fun. The Presentation Points page features effective and ineffective speaking techniques through still photographs and video clips. For more information on Speech courses or this resource page, contact Mary L. Umberger, Ph.D. at 402-457-2614, or visit her homepage. |
