Dear Students and Visitors,
Thank you for visiting our web site. Communications and Humanities at Metro includes the Departments of English and Humanities, and offers courses in English, humanities, music, philosophy, speech, and theatre. Our faculty and staff are committed to helping you understand those disciplines and to assisting your growth and development.
We offer courses in a variety of ways as we seek to make your education easily accessible. In addition to our traditional classes, many courses are offered in "distributed" means, on-line through the Internet, and by means of the college's internal distance learning system. Classes meet at day, evening, and weekend times, and at a variety of locations, both on our campuses and centers and at off-campus locations such as Ralston, Millard South, Fort Calhoun, Burke, Blair, and Bellevue East High Schools, as well as at the Westside Continuing Education Center.
We are proud of our faculty. Nearly all hold master's or doctoral degrees, and among us are several winners of the college's Con-Agra Excellence in Teaching Award, as well as Fulbright and Case nominees. Although we strive to stay current with the advances in our fields, we are especially committed to excellent instruction and to helping you learn. For that reason, you may be surprised to find that in addition to the traditional college lecture, our classes typically feature a variety of learning methods to prepare you better for the challenges you face in your professional and personal lives.
We believe that learning is the most exciting and rewarding human undertaking. It is our genuine hope that, when you conclude your classes at Metro, you will be able to write effectively and persuasively, to think critically, to express yourself well orally, and to understand and appreciate your world better. We hope to serve you well in that enterprise, encouraging you to become a self-sustaining learner armed with sophisticated skills that help you succeed.
Your thoughts and suggestions are most welcome, and we would be pleased if you would send them to our Web Editor.
