Salmonberry is in the rose family. Although an upright shrub, it is closely
related to blackberry vines, and salmonberry has edible fruit. The unripe
fruit has a salmon color, but the fruit is much sweeter after it ripens to red.
Salmonberries have twice the vitamin C of an orange, and they
are loaded with anti-oxidants and anthcyanin pigments.
Salmonberries are found in the cool coastal areas of Northern
California on up to the Alaskan shoreline. They have only
recently been cultivated for commercial use.
