It is prized for its intense berry flavor. It is a small perennial with leaves borne in loose rosettes, each leaf divided into three leaflets. Plants colonial as a result of producing stolons. Flowers are usually white but forms with pink or pink-striped flowers are known.  Highly adaptable and found in many habitats including open woods, fields, fens and prairies.  Plants are self-sterile with male and female flowers usually borne on separate plants. The small strawberries produced by female plants are extremely flavorful and are amongst the most delicious of North America's wild fruits.
