Please begin reading the following assignments for the coming week:

            
                 
 

(a) Edler's essay " Representational and Non-representational Thinking in the Poetry of Ezra Pound "

(b) Alperson (The Philosophy of theVisual Arts): read Sandrisser's essay "Rain," pp. 609-617.

(c) Cooper (A Companion to Aesthetics) : read the entries under "text" (pp. 418-420) and "Metaphor" (pp. 285-287).
** These readings must be completed before the week of Jan. 6-10

     If you are interested in the Nebraskan novelist Wright Morris who did some
     interesting experiments using the juxtaposition of word and photographic  image     ("photo-texts"), investigate Alan Trachtenberg's article on these
     "photo-texts".
