Section II: The Course

Course Description:

This is a joint course given both in the Philosophy Program and in the Electronic
Imaging Program which attempts to bridge the gap between the rapidly expanding
field of visual technology and the traditional humanities (philosophy of art, art history,
fine arts, etc.). Emphasis is placed on the attempt to develop a new or different
aesthetic (and critical language) which acknowledges and integrates the new
electronic technologies. The course begins with more traditional problems and then
moves towards problems posed by the so-called visual turn brought about by visual
technologies.

Course Prerequisites:

None. However, EIG students will be expected to construct electronic images; PHL
students will not. This is a 200-level course: students are expected to have a good
academic foundation.
