An Essay on "The Kool-Aid Wino"
by Bradley L. Kusel

The Kool-Aid Wino is a positive portrayal of his life. He has taken his life or the circumstances of his life and made the best of how he is living. Not withstanding his health, the Kool-Aid Wino has a goal for each day of his life. The goal, to drink a gallon of Kool-Aid, motivates him to press on to the next day.

Three positive aspects to this passage are: he makes the best of his life situation. His objective upon waking is to secure four quarts of Kool-Aid to drink throughout the day. He wakes up prepared to accomplish his goal by being fully clothed. He has established and preplanned arrangements to assure he has a supply of Kool-Aid each day. A close friend supplies the financial support and companionship as they make their way to the grocer and buy his packet of Kool-Aid

He has overcome adversity, distractions of his siblings and the daily chores he needs to do by stepping around them and pursuing his goal. He readies himself for his quest by hurriedly making his breakfast on the run. He hastily leaves his house on his quest. Going over fields, past pheasants and to the grocer to get the Kool-Aid he so earnestly desires.

Finally, he attains his goal creating his own happiness. With Kool-Aid in hand, he returns home and carefully goes about preparing the Kool-Aid for that day. The preparation and regiment are precise components of his addiction. He follows his regiment like a detailed instruction manual. He is pursuing each step methodically until he attains his desired goal. Upon completing his preparations his objective is met for that day.

Negative aspects that can be detected of the Kool-Aid Wino are: he appears to have tunnel vision and selfish direction, and he lets nothing stand in the way of attaining his goal. Also, he fails to follow his mother's requests with chores until later. He seems to have limited interest in others' activities. He has little interest in what others need or want. His attitude seems to be attaining his gallon of Kool-Aid for the day.

Finally, he accepts a substandard environment. The place of preparation a chicken house and the way the mattress and the comics are laying around. The sanitary conditions are below societal norms.

These are my observations of the Kool-Aid wino.
